Sing... Sing a Song, Sing Out Loud, Sing Out Strong

Well, before anyone assumes I can sing (which if you have been around me long enough, you know I cannot) I need to tell you I absolutely LOVE to sing but I cannot carry a tune to save my life. I love singing at church because we love our music loud at Southbrook and I can sing loud and out of tune and no one knows the difference. :)

I love to sing in the shower with my parrot ( shush Greg... he STILL is not my prize possession) Doby kinda likes it when I sing off key... he just sings a long with me and pretends that is how the song is supposed to sound.

I love to sing while driving and it is just me in the van. I turn the music up loud and pretend I too could be an American Idol. :)

I also have a song for everything. This sometimes annoys those who live with me or have to spend much time with me. For example... in the morning I will walk out to the front room and open the blinds and sing " Let the sunshine .. Let the sunshine... the sun shine in" When I wake the kids sometime I will sing "Rise and shine and give God the glory glory" (they REALLY don't like that one) If I hear a trolley I will sing "ding ding goes the trolley... ring ring goes the bell" This song drove my friends crazy while in Hawaii because everywhere you turned there was a trolley. The ocean was rocky in Hawaii and while in the ocean I would stand on a rock... well that one is really tempting.... and I tried REALLY hard not to sing it because no one there with me would recognize the song. At church in the children's ministry we would sing "I'm gonna stand on the Rock, I'm gonna stand on the rock, I'm gonna stand on the rock, of God's word. I'm gonna try to obey, I'm gonna try to obey, I'm gonna try to obey.... Obey God's word." Needless to say everyone else also knew the song by the time we left Hawaii, I couldn't help myself.

Last year while on vacation in Florida (I guess I am proving just how crazy I am with this one) I decided to get up before sun rise one day so I could witness the sun rise on the beach. I was all alone, I walked out of our condo quietly with my flash light and chair and onto the beach. I situated myself at the waters edge so I could feel the waves crash on my feet. The sky started to turn a brilliant color of orange and pink and it was breath taking... just as the sun was about to peek up over the horizon I sang " Here comes the sun... doo doo doo doo... here comes the sun and I say it's alright." Am I stupid or what??? Please tell me you all think of songs too???

As the kids get older and have learned more songs... (especially the older ones) they can now see it coming in the conversation. Leslie has gotten to the point that she will actually pause while talking to give me time to get my little song clip in before continuing our conversation.

You know... it does say in scripture we are to speak to one another in song... I know, I know, its not the same KIND of singing... but hey it's a start. :)

Eph 5:19-20 speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody with your heart to the Lord; always giving thanks for all things in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to God, even the Father.

I saw this video on you tube yesterday and it hit home for me so I thought I would share it here on my blog. :) Enjoy!

  1. That was a great clip! My mom does the same thing. My brother started something when he was younger. He would get up and try to think of an annoying song to get stuck in my moms head every morning. Her problem is she cant stop singing it.

Always have a song in your heart! Have a great Spring Day!!!
